My adventure began in 2001 when my husband and I, and our teenage son left our 5-acre working horse ranch in rural Southern California to move aboard a boat docked in "America's Finest City," San Diego. Along with our family of three came our very confused border collie who magnanimously agreed to give up herding horses to come along on the boat ride of a lifetime.
