IntroductionHi and thanks for visiting my blog! My project “Choose You This Day” is something that I worked on for about a year. I needed one more 10-hour project to complete my Personal Progress in the Young Women’s program. My mom came to me with the idea of doing a modern-day approach on the parable of the ten virgins that is found in Matthew 25:1-13. I liked the idea, but kept putting it off. Knowing time was running short because I would soon graduate from high school, my mom kept trying to get me to move forward with the idea. It got to the point where all my mom could talk about was this project. I didn’t have the same passion that she had, and she was really starting to annoy me. Seeing what this was doing to our relationship, she stopped talking about it. One night I had a dream that made me realize the importance of this project. The next day I told my mom about the dream and she was very excited. She told me that she was tired of bothering me about it and put it into Heavenly Father’s hands. Her prayers were answered and the next week we took the first picture.
InterestsI would like to thank my amazing photographer Don Wilhelmsen for seeing the vision of what we wanted to accomplish. Combining his time and many talents, he has helped to make this project a reality! Thanks Don! Thank you Knight Hunt, Terri Burton, Debbie DeBoer, and my mom who were there giving their artistic suggestions, ideas, and support throughout the whole project. Also thank you, S. Michael Wilcox, whose many talks and writings have helped to give inspiration and vision. This project has changed my life. I am so grateful to share this with others. The parable of the ten virgins is all about preparing to meet the Lord at His Second Coming. Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles said the lamps in the parable represent our testimony and the oil is our conversion to the gospel (see “Converted Unto the Lord,” Ensign, November 2012). There are many distractions that can keep us from putting oil in our lamps. I have chosen five to think about. When you look at the picture, don’t think that because you wear animal print or black nail polish that you’re foolish. These are just things that I came up with that represented the ideas that I wanted to get across. Anything that prevents us from focusing on the Lord or takes us away from Him is a distraction.
