| Introduction | Maria is a writer of poetry, fiction, children story, play, script,in Cebuano and English. She wrote columns for What's on in the Visayas and Cebu Daily News. Also a visual artist and a clay sculptor, she is member of the Board of Trustee of Pusod Inc. (an organization of visual artists), treasurer of Bathalad, Inc. (an organization of Cebuano writers) and past chairwoman of Women in Literary Arts, Inc. She wrote a book on the History of Lapunti Arnis de Abaniko-its Grandmasters and has published her literary works in several anthologies, magazines and newspapers. She is currently writing the history Of Pinamungajan town of the Cebu Provincial History Project.She is active in local Cebuano films as scriptwriter and actress. She has a new column in Cebu Gold Star Daily and runs a garden restaurant and a pension house in uptown Cebu City (Kukuk's Nest). She won in the Gawad Komisyon Cebuano fiction in 2006,2008 and starred in the movies "Pagbalik" -Gawad CCP Best Regional Entry and 2nd Best Short Feature and "Confessional" a multi-awarded full length that bagged the Best Foreign Feature Film in the CineFan Film Festival in New Delhi, India, 2008. |
