| Introduction | I see the world in words, and language - the written word, the spoken word - is my art. The name of this blog comes from Betty Smith's novel, "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn", which I first read in high school. My 11th grade English teacher gave it to me, and she taught me that my ability to "read the world" and "write the world into being" was a gift to be cherished deeply, a tool to be used wisely, and a power to be wielded courageously. Passing this knowledge on to my students is my craft, my passion, my purpose, and my legacy. |
