Introduction	Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art, developed by the African slaves of Brazil in the 16th century. They used capoeira to fight back and escape their owners, eventually gaining their freedom. Capoeira focuses more on dodges and tricky tactics to gain an advantage over our opponents. Although capoeira appears to be a beautiful ever-flowing dance, its practitioners are trained to protect themselves from array of blows using the head, elbows, knees, hands and feet. Our Capoeira group is based in Central Jersey, and lead by Professor Maranhao
