Introduction	I am an aging experimenter. Much of the time I live in a hole under a house outside of Boston, but my preference is to be amonsgt the trees at my place in Vermont. You can hear the whispers better. And life whispers to me about: the forest and all the many kindred, especially the plants and mushrooms; the center and periphery of scientific endeavor; religious and anti-religious practice and ideas of various kinds; music with folky roots (and what music has none?); the varied stories of people's lives; making things; keeping an eye on government and other forces that affect all our lives; the very next moment down the road.
