Introduction The Knackered old Camera Competition was born as a result of an office refit. Three colleagues sharing an office at Nottingham Trent University photography department decided their surroundings were a bit scruffy. After a general tidy up, it was decided to hang a few framed photographs of their own photos. They soon discovered that between them they had a large number of vintage cameras lying around, so shelves were put up in the office, drawers ransacked and cupboards raided a small camera museum was soon created. The idea of a competition began as a joke- if these cameras still worked, it was suggested, it was a pity to just let them gather dust. Thus, the KOCC competition was created as an incentive and a set of rules were written and approved. By this time the number of participants had swelled to six, as others asked to join in. A solemn ceremony, as all inductees held a copy of ‘The Ilford Manual of Photography, 1934’ in their right hand and a roll of Tri-X in their left and swore to uphold the KOCC manifesto.
