| Introduction | I was born and raised in north of Manila, Philippines, the eldest of three boys in a middle-class family. I had an easy--if somewhat a rather introverted childhood. I wasn't interested in toys, but I was a voracious reader. I read everything from the bible to porn. I was educated in a private, all-boys Catholic school, and got top honours for English and journalism. I attended the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts, where I graduated with honours (cum laude). I moved on to take up a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at De La Salle University in Manila, but I had to withdraw due to work schedule conflicts. I worked in advertising, graphic design, publishing, and web development for more than ten years. My poetry, short stories, essays and photography have been published in books, anthologies, various magazines, online conferences and literary websites. I moved to Canada in the winter of 2004. I live in Vancouver, British Columbia with Norman and our cat Alice B. Tokles. |
