| Introduction | As a native Calgarian, I was fortunate to be born where I was meant to be. I love The Stampede, the people, the western flavour, proximity to the mountains, and yes - even the dramatic temperature fluctuations. My first real experience with horses came as a volunteer with the Calgary Handicapped Riding Association in the 80s. When the program folded because of funding cuts, I was asked if I wanted to have one of the horses - Apache. He was absolutely the perfect horse for someone who loved them but knew nothing. He kept me out of trouble on more than one occassion. Along the way to discovering what horsemanship means, I have been very lucky to have had wonderful mentors and advice. I now have my own little herd I call my "boys". The sheer joy of seeing them and being with them every day far exceeds anything I could have imagined as a child. And now I have a chance to share that experience with others who were just born Horse Crazy... |
