| Introduction | SOAD) is open to all those belonging to the Diaspora, irrespective of their citizenship and nationality both within and outside the continent (Africa), as well as those interested in promoting and cultivating a community that honors and respects the history and achievements of this. It is important to note that the African Diaspora populations consists of Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Ecuador, Nicaragua, and other Latin American countries, as well as The West Indies, and various countries in Europe. |
| Interests | SOAD was founded upon the grounds in which to provide, secure and create a space that would foster production and growth, exchange, support, mentorship, activism, critical engagement and consciousness-building/awareness-raising amongst students of the African Diaspora at The New School and The New School community at large. The purpose of this organization/organism is multifaceted. Firstly, it is to build/expand upon the legacy manifested by our former predecessor, Women of Color. Secondly, it is to create a safe, effective, and active space for the growing community of women and men of the African Diaspora at this university at the student, faculty, and administrative levels. Lastly, it is to construct a community that proffers outlets, mentorship and counseling, as well as resources which to benefit all members both in and outside of the school community. |
