| Introduction | Scott E. McDonald is a Southern California native transplanted in Virginia after twenty years of Naval service that took him around the world a few times. Scott built his first garden railway in 1987 and had it featured in the January/February 1989 issue of Garden Railways Magazine. Scott caught the idea of building a garden railway back in the late seventies when one was featured in Model Railroader magazine. At that time, Scott was an N scale modeler and the issue he saw showed a British live steam railway amongst a gorgeous backyard railway that changed his mind about his N scale endeavors. However it wouldn’t be until 1987 when he purchased his first house that he would bring the dream into reality. An avid live steamer, Scott can be found at steamups all along the east coast and an occasional one out west. He is a co-owner of Steam in the Garden Magazine and one of the Co-Authors of the “Starting in Steam” book published by Steam in the Garden which is designed to help beginners get started in the live steam hobby. |
