Introduction Pen name Corvus Papyrifera, a fractured Latin tag linking my name to the art of papermaking. From fiber to finished sheet, the process of making paper is simple enough to reach in a day but has refinements that take decades to unravel and perfect. Paper is one of our oldest inventions but it's still vital to our everyday lives as well as endlessly fascinating to artists of all kinds. Origami, altered books, sculpture, calligraphy, printmaking, miniature bound books, limited edition bound letterpress poems all make use of specially made papers. I've never sat and watched paint dry but I have many times observed and been entertained by the drying of paper.
Interests I'd like to see us dance more and sit less, televisions unplugged and left to gather dust, I'd like to walk in the woods one day and find that of all the other people I meet on the trail, not one is talking on a cell phone. Things of interest: paper, dancing to live music, hiking solo or with people who really enjoy it, birds, books, looking at rocks, fossils - especially trilobites, digging garden beds, finding enough ready to pick stuff in my garden to make a meal, heirloom apple varieties, old detailed postage stamps, well-made furniture drawers, the knitting of small projects (like socks) that take only a year (!) to complete, the call of the pileated woodpecker or those owls I hear at 4 am, toads in my garden, social progress towards a more equitable pattern of wealth and welfare for all; a stop to the madness of over-consumption and the escalating lust for more stuff.
Favorite Books Authors whose writing I admire: Samuel Clemens, Jane Langton, Dorothy Sayers, John Dunning (the Cliff Janeway novels), Elizabeth Gilbert, and more names will surface later ...
