| Introduction | In 2003 we bought 16 acres in central Virginia. The horses, goats, dogs, cats, and various other pets love it and I dreamed of growing our own food for a couple years before finally delving in. Over the winter of 2008 I listened to Barbara Kingsolver's audiobook Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, and it gave me the inspiration I needed to take the plunge into gardening! In the spring of 2009 we began Square Foot Gardening with wonderful results, and I'm slowly but surely adding to the garden, as well as the butterfly garden I put in over the pet cemetary, and various herbs growing in containers on the deck. |
