Introduction I retired from careers in 3 different fields. I was a Medical Technologist in hospital labs & while still doing that I opened and ran a yarn shop for 6 years, teaching and designing, too. I continued teaching and designing, conducting week-long workshops on the Outer Banks of N C each spring for 5 years. I also taught knitting at various shops and gatherings of knitters. And I volunteered at The Root Cellar in Portland, ME; a Christian Ministry in an area inhabited by many immigrants and refugees from many countries; providing ESL classes, free food & clothing distribution, after school programs, homework help, Women's breakfast, Family Dinner, free medical & dental clinics, and more. When they needed an interim director for the children's program another volunteer and I shared the position and I stayed on in the Children's Programs after the new director arrived, for another 2 years. My husband and I still volunteer there at the Family Dinners and I mentor a 12-year-old girl.
