About me

LocationSuba, Bogotá, Colombia
IntroductionTaller de paz is a joint initiative between students of Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania and La Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, Colombia to work with children of internally displaced families ages 10 - 14 living in the outskirts of Bogotá. The focus of the program will be to encourage peaceful resolutions to conflict and self-expression through photography, art, and digital storytelling using these mediums as empowerment tools for the kids to explore their own environments as well as their own meanings of peace. The program will also contribute to the kids’ educational development by fostering skills in reading, writing, and English studies. Each participant will complete a final cumulative project in the form of a photo portfolio or digital story. These projects will be exhibited both locally and globally in art galleries, at home in Colombia and in the United States, to raise awareness of the conflicts suffered in Colombia as well as to fund-raise to support the future of the program and subsidize the educational costs of our program's participants. Our goal is to make Taller de paz into a sustainable program that permanently serves the displaced community of Bogotá.
