About me

IntroductionEducation and Economics for Youth (EEY) was founded in 2007 in Moshi, Tanzania, by 12 women and men from disadvantaged backgrounds, who were determined to lift the youth of the Kilimanjaro region out of poverty through education and economic empowerment. The programme operates in Mawela Vocational Training Centre, which is 10 kilometers north of Moshi, on the lower slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. It aims at providing basic education and training to marginalised young men and women, with a specific focus on teaching the English language and basic economics and business skills. Day-to-day operation of EEY is managed by the Director, Vice Director, the Programme Officer, and the academic staff, who are all in their twenties and early thirties. Despite their enthusiasm and determination, the programme suffers from extreme shortage of resources and qualified teachers. EEY is a partner programme of Cross-Cultural Solutions, from whom it receives volunteers on an occational basis.
