Willow Open Challenge.
My blogs
| Introduction | To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Willow Foundation, four golfers will attempt a unique sporting feat, to play all six English golf courses that have hosted the Open Championship in one day. If successful, Alistair Hunter, Mike Balfour, Justin Jeffery, and Paul White will play 108 holes, walk at least 35 miles, and travel 350 miles between courses in just 24 hours. They will be the first golfers in recorded history to have completed this unique challenge. The challenge attempt will be made on the longest day - Sunday 21 June 2009. Through sponsorship, the intrepid golfers hope to raise more than £100,000 for the Willow Foundation. Such a sum would enable the charity to provide more than 100 special day experiences in 2009 for 16-40 year olds living with the difficult realities of a life threatening illness. The six golf courses – Princes, and Royal St Georges in Sandwich, Royal Cinque Ports in Deal, Royal Liverpool in Hoylake, Royal Birkdale in Southport, and Royal Lytham & St Annes are all supporting the challenge. The golfers will play foursomes and carry their own clubs. All courses must be completed and no buggies or caddies are permitted. |
