| Introduction | distinguished demographer, researcher,and teacher who has devoted most of his professional life in population studies, public health, and family planning programmes.He has a distinguished academic career with a Master's in Mathematics(Madras University); a Master's in Statistics(Indian Statistical Institute, Calcutta); a Master's in Public Hygiene(Harvard University); and a PhD in Demography(Kerala University). He started his career as statistician in Institute of Rural Health and Family Planning,Gandhigram, Tamil Nadu. Later, in succession, he worked as Population Officer in the Population Division in ESCAP, United Nations, Bangkok; as Director of Population Center, Indian Population Project, Bangalore; as Director, International Institute of Population Sciences(IIPS),Bombay; as Executive Director,Population Foundation, New Delhi, and then as Emeritus Professor, IIPS. He is currently Honorary Professor, ISEC,Bangalore.He has published over 100 research papers in International and Indian scientific journals, and has authored and edited numerous books on demography and population sciences,including Regulating Reproduction of India's Population. |
