| Introduction | Larry Krannich is Professor Emeritus of Chemistry at the University of Alabama at Birmingham where he served as Department Chair for 27 years, taught, and carried out research throughout his career. Since retiring, he has served as Interim Director of the UAB Center for Community OutReach Development, continues as the Executive Director of the Alabama Academy of Science, maintains a very active involvement in the ACS leadership program, and enjoys outdoor activities. He received the ACS E. Ann Nalley Southeast Award for Volunteer Service (2009) and served as V-President (2008, 2009) and President of the IPC Foundation Board (2010). From 2011 to 2013 he was District IV Director on the ACS Board of Directors. In 2014, he was named a Fellow of the American Chemical Society.
