IntroductionThe MYSA photography and video project (Shootback) was introduced by American photographer Lana Wong and a youth leader Francis Kimanzi in the year 1997 with 16 boys and 16 girls between the ages of 12 to 17 years old The aim is to allow youth from the slums to venture into diverse activities and be able to tap into their talents, allow more opportunity for career. The idea is to document their day-to- day lives, MYSA activities, and share these with the rest of the world. The activities include weekly meetings, documentation and journal writing among others. Members meet once in a week for discussions and sharing ideas. we exhibits photos locally and internationally and were successful in the first phase, where they published the Shootback book with a compilation of their best photographs. In the continuation of the Shootback photography programme, Image-in-the-MDGs is a project geared towards empowering the youth through photography with a particular focus on the millennium development goals (MDGs).The MDGs provides a compelling structuring element for discussing development strategies and policies and understanding the global dimension within which their voice can be heard.
