About me

IntroductionNate was born June 5, 2005. One week later we discovered that he had Down Syndrome. The first 3 years of his life were somewhat low key, with ear infections and tubes, but after adenoid removal he developed a severe airway infection necessitating a tracheostomy. Six months later the trach was removed and within two weeks he was diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia). Nate is presently in remission and is still undergoing treatment with daily oral chemo, monthly port access with blood draws and chemo. Every three months Nate is sedated for a spinal tap with chemo injected into his spine. Through it all he smiles! Nate started Kindergarten this year and is thriving! He loves getting on the school bus and learning new things. His speech is greatly delayed, but he gives it his all. Luckily we taught Nate how to sign at an early age and he continues with his "Signing Times" videos. Nate's personality far outshines all of his medical problems. I've seen him light up the face of someone that didn't look like they felt like smiling. He is a gift from God!
