Introduction WELCOME! I am 50-something Canadian Prairie Girl, who has always enjoyed growing some of my own food. I have always gardened, but in recent years really developed a full-on geek-out when it comes to plants. I am fascinated by them and what they can do. Lately, I have really been into propagating oddball things via seed or cuttings, especially things that are not usually started from seed (like irises, day lilies, daffodils, muscari, tulips, lilies, etc) or from cuttings (tuberous begonias, verbena, peonies, tomato plants). I love rescuing plants from the cull pile or the clearance bin -- great way to learn & experiment. One last thing -- sustainability. Let's work on growing good soil, so the soil can grow good plants instead of dumping random fertilizers onto dead soil!
Interests I love gardening, growing & nurturing things. Like, REALLY. love gardening! Continually learning & growing as a person is very important to me, and I love discussing the similarities AND differences in our gardens! I absolutely LOVE introducing people to their inner gardener, and I especially love it when neighbourhood kids ask me questions or when I can give them something fresh from the garden -- seeing the look of amazement in their eyes when they taste a home-grown pea, carrot or tomato!
Favorite Movies "What Plants Talk About" - PBS NOVA, David Attenborough's "Plants Behaving Badly: Murder & Mayhem" Micro-Monsters (another Attenborough)
Favorite Music More of a genre than specifics -- I like fun music, stuff I can sing along to, or drum along to, I'm always tapping when there's music (an sometimes even when the music is only in my head, haha)... I love P!nk, Meatloaf, Black Veil Brides & Mariana's Trench, The Corrs, and others.
Favorite Books Magazines like Canadian Living, Gardens West & Canadian Gardening (both now defunct but I keep an eye out for old issues at Goodwill or Value Village), Mother Earth News, Alberta Gardener, and National Geographic
