| Introduction | Our goal is to create an Urban Paradise in Long Beach; a city with green rooftops and native plants, where the arts and education go hand in hand with a water-wise green landscape. Our goal is to re-open the Main Library's rooftop garden as a native plant and art sanctuary by and for the community. We want to accomplish this by using California native and drought resistant plants that don't require a lot of water. They won't require irrigation and can help reduce water damage when it rains by 50-70%. This is a huge space about the size of football field with space for live music, poetry, theatre, murals, and of course plants that clean the air and make visitors feel at one with the earth. This will be a center for peace, where we can come from anywhere and experience culture, diversity, and unity. Sounds like a lot, yes, too much? No way! We are humans and together we can do anything we set our minds to. We are looking for help from anyone in the community to create this URBAN PARADISE. “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” -Margaret Mead |
