Industry Publishing
Occupation Writer/Editor/Consultant
Location Manhattan, New York, U.S. Outlying Islands
Introduction I started out in publishing at Fawcett Books in 1975. From 1983 to 1995, I was Executive Editor of the Ballantine imprint at Random House, where I acquired and edited books by Edgar Award winner Stuart Kaminsky: Edgar nominees Frederick Huebner, Paul Mann, and Christopher Newman; and best-selling authors Roderick Thorp, Samuel Shem, Michael Bar-Zohar, and Carolyn Hougan. I also acquired books by Jane Smiley, Carl Hiaasen, Wilbur Smith, Bharati Mukherjee, and James Patterson for paperback publication. For the past twenty years I've worked independently with award winning writers who've sold millions of books and with amateur writers just starting out to make their careers, including several memoirs, many mystery novels and award- winning mystery stories, and non-fiction including histories, current affairs, economics, and a political biography by a Pulitzer-Prize-winning journalist. I can be reached at djznyc@gmail.com.
Interests I love to read books, and e-books of all kinds -- mysteries, thrillers, historical novels, suspense, literary novels, and non-fiction books about history, politics, travel, and science. When I'm not reading, I like to keep in shape by running and playing basketball. From May through November I race Lightning sailboats on the Hudson River at Nyack.
