| Introduction | Over 23 years ago, fresh out of college and eager to start a business, I was lost. Despite my education, I had no clue what I was doing or what I desired from a business. That all changed with a visit to The World of Beads in NYC. That visit crystallized my ambitions and the type of business I needed to pursue; it was as if it understood me intrinsically. I needed a business model that would consistently challenge and stimulate me while remaining profitable. I recognized that if a business ever failed to keep me engaged and learning, I'd be tempted to move on to something new out of sheer boredom. The Bead World, with its almost ADHD-like focus, seemed perfectly tailored to someone like me. As I delved into the world of beads, learning about one type after another and their unique characteristics, my customers became invaluable educators. They taught me as we collaborated, sharing their knowledge and guiding me on what to say to my suppliers. This collaborative approach led to success, as more and more beaders sought out the same products. My business thrived from the very beginning, thanks to this dynamic and engaging environment. |
