| Introduction | My great-grandparents, Amos Jasper and Mattie Baldwin McMeans moved to Sugar Land in the early 1920's. My grandmother, Nola McMeans Hughes, was a telephone operator in the days of "Number, please." My great aunt, her twin sister, Nora McMeans Blair, worked at the grocery store. My mother's family, the Elskes, moved to Sugar Land about 1928, living first on Lakeview and then on Brooks Street. William, Monroe, Sidney, Dorothy, and Irene Elskes graduated from Sugar Land High School. I was born in the original Laura Eldridge Hospital. We moved from Sugar Land to San Antonio when I was about 10. I still have several relatives in the area and love 'old' Sugar Land. This blog has been wonderful...thanks to Bruce and Chuck! |
