| Introduction | I was born into a middle class Brahmin family and was raised in typical Brahmin surroundings of Sadashiv Peth,Pune, then suffused with Brahmin conservatism and marked closely by a ring of cultural landmarks. Thus attending public events often became a part of my day.The exposure set my mindset that included a sense of social justice and understanding people beyond their imperfections, views and ideology. In 1972 I did my Masters' from the Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics,Pune and joined Ness Wadia College that year itself. A PhD in Business Economics came later. As a teacher,I wrote for the Sadhana weekly and for others. My visit to Israel in 1994 to attend a month long international course in cooperative systems and shortly therafter to UK to read a paper at Oxford University on ‘Globalisation and Dalits’ were a part of my further learning process. The fatal accident of my beloved wife in December 2007 was a cruel blow to my contented married life and led me to form AnandYatra in March 2008. Post retirement in 2010 as Principal,I decided to work for Maher (NGO for homeless children and women) as Hon Advisor. The work there leaves me fulfilled at the end of the day. |
