About me

Introduction I am the parent of a wonderful daughter who happens to be blind and has Cerebral Palsy. I have lived most of my life in West Harlem in NYC. I was raised in a progressive family, the child of career trade unionists. My parent’s choose lives of service and were deeply committed to the struggle to create equality for all people. At a very early age I was taught the importance of volunteerism and giving back to my community. I was that upbringing that influenced my choice to become a paramedic for the NYC Fire Department and finally a Lieutenant. I am the President of the Parents of Blind Children of New York (POBCNY) and have served on the boards of the Citywide Council on Special Education and the National Organization of Parents of Blind Children. I currently serve on the Executive Board of the NYS Commission for the Blind as the Governor’s appointee.
