| Introduction | Little Alex has been diagnosed with what's called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. Basically speaking, she has no real left ventricle to speak of, which means that the right half of her heart (which is not made for heavy pumping) is doing it's own job plus the more difficult job usually given to the left side. This also means that oxygenated blood and non oxygenated blood are mixing and getting pumped into the body in that diluted state, which results in not enough oxygen for the body. What this means for Alexandra is that she will be given medicine at birth to help sustain her until her first open heart surgery that will happen within the first 2 days of her life. This is one of three surgeries that need to happen before her third birthday. We have high hopes for our little girl and wish that you would keep her in your thoughts and prayers.
