Introduction A beam reach is a direction of sail in which the wind is blowing directly over the side (over the beam) of the boat. Growing up on Lake Michigan, my friends and I could never quite bring ourselves to compete in organized races --instead we chose to sail where the wind blew us, usually out and back with the wind on our beam both ways. This blog is similar. I'll be writing about things related to science and the environment that interest me (and hopefully others who want to follow along).
