| Introduction | Welcome! I am currently undertaking the Masters in Teaching (Primary) at ACU. In 2000, I graduated with a B.Sc. (molecular genetics) and entered IVF science where I worked as a technical officer and finally, an IVF scientist. After learning the ropes from the ground up, there came a very difficult point where I questioned the practice, ethics (moral and professional) and future of the industry. Adding to the dilemma, the more experienced I became the more mundane and repetitive my role - cognitively, affectively, physically. Spiritually, I felt unchallenged, inhibited and frustrated. Surely there was more to life? In late 2009 the unexpected, delightful news of my pregnancy caused me to further reflect on my needs and future. Pursuing my passion for food and emerging interest in teaching I applied for a job as a Kitchen Specialist at a school for their Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Project but was unsuccessful. Nevertheless, I decided that teaching was the field to pursue. It provided daily challenges in several areas, a much deeper level of human interaction (something lacking in the lab), the constant need to learn and much, much more. So here I am today........ |
