Introduction I was born an Artist and a Mystic of mixed ethnic and cultural heritage. Mom is a white Universalist Quaker. Dad was Mohawk, Saponi and African American. I identify as Black and Indian, because, I simply cannot relate to the myth of "the tragic Mulatto," miserably stuck between irreconcilable worlds, never fully accepted in either. I also know, based on considerable experience, that many Whites still have difficulty accepting their "colored" relatives into the family. Because my parents were married in the early 1950s, when interracial marriages were illegal in many parts of the US, the only place they could live together was Harlem. Therefore, I grew up in New York City, during a period of major social and political upheaval. I learned about living my values and walking my talk at home. I've learned that the Maker of Life loves me and that my various ancestors and Spirit Helpers are always near to guide, protect and support me. Now that I'm a grandmother, I view my background, experience, unigue gifts, insights and responsibilities as an embarrassment of riches, to be shared.
