| Introduction | My name is Kristi Marie and I currently live in Detroit, Michigan. Prior to my move to Detroit I was a Peace Corps volunteer, stationed in Malawi, a small country in central Africa. My blog: kristigoestoafrica outlines the adventures and experiences as a Peace Corps Volunteer. Living in a local village, I saw the direct negative impact of of second hand clothing, discarded in bulk, from American thrift stores to third world countries. The solution: Designing children clothes; to reuse and give new life to garments, previously discarded. You can read the tutorials on the blog:rags+riches. I live by the mantra: "one mans trash is another wo(mans) treasure" and attempt to turn unwanted items, into luxury, one of a kind, children's apparel. Inspired by my grandmother, "grandma goo", who passed away in 2016, who continuously instilled in me a passion to create and reuse. |
