Introduction | 30something Belgian woman with fantastic husband and a wonderful daughter now living in Antwerp, Belgium after 15 great years in Texas, getting used to living in Belgium again, still renovating a 100-year old house, while writing a dissertation and figuring out how to live life to the fullest... |
Interests | oh so many and so little time... what do I love to do? Spend time with my fabulous husband and wonderful daughter, travel to known places to rediscover them, and travel to new places to rediscover myself, read, write, dream about hundreds of projects I would like to complete... and most obviously of course, art and history and art history, and writing about those crazy ancient Roman emperors. |
Favorite movies | the epics such as Dr. Zhivago and Lawrence of Arabia, classics like Casablanca, Citizen Kane, On the Waterfront, and of course Streetcar named Desire. Let's not forget Rebel without a Cause and completely different Breakfast at Tiffany's. In musicals My Fair Lady stands out by far. Lately there have been a few worth mentioning such as Babel, Crash, and oddly enough Tideland. I really like Pan's Labyrinth as well. And just about anything by Tim Burton. |
Favorite music | Bach. And a whole slew of other contemporary ones from bluegrass to hip hop. Oh and did I mention Bach? |
Favorite books | oh dear.... books. Right now books mean dissertation research. But wait, I can vaguely remember reading literature, way back when. Some great ones: Crime and Punishment, Brothers Karamazov (wish I could read Russian), Poisonwood Bible, Middlesex, Cloud Mountain, (again epics) and anything by Margaret George, and by far one of the most well-written books in my opinion is God of Small Things. |
The wicked backspin caught you off guard. How will you play it off without losing your footing?
Dismiss that question. Here is my own: What will I miss the most about living in (Austin) Texas? Shady Grove's Green Chili Cheese Fries, Tex-Mex food (maybe?), the sound of cicadas on a sweltering night, the wide open roads and the big blue sky. Oh and chicken fried steak smothered in white gravy -- just kiddin'
