Introduction | For the past 10 years I have had chronic back pain. At the age of 21, I had 2 herniated discs at L4-L5 and L5-S1. My condition was debilitating to the point where I could not walk. After a couple of nerve root block injections and an epidural steroid injection my mobility came back. Over the course of the years I had either a re-herniation or a flare up of pain. In April 2011, I had a partial discectomy. In October 2011, I was rear-ended at a traffic light. After months of physical therapy and two nerve root block injections along with an epidural steroid injection, my condition remained the same; the minimally invasive approaches did not relieve my back pain nor the sciatica in my right leg. My physical therapist recommended surgery. After consulting with my orthopedic surgeon, his recommendation was a fusion. I, on the other hand, refused to go that route. Here's my journey to a better back with the use of medical tourism and an artificial disc replacement surgery using the M6-L. |
