IntroductionEach morning, my wife awakens my life again; my heart leaps and I stand to greet her. Soon, I ask if she wants to go for a walk; later, to read together. I respond to her wishes. If she wants privacy, I return to my work yet am alert to her voice. She’s a retired elementary school teacher. I once shared a pivotal thought --- that everything, including ethics, emerges from physics --- she asked, “Do you mean the study?” I answered, “No: the object of study, or energy, mass and space-time.” She asked, “What is space-time?” I described the use of red lights for travelers. Prompted to vehicles, she said, “I’ve got it. Looking to park at the mall, I choose a free space.” She asked about religion. I said, “It’s the lack of discovery.” She said, "Yes, Jesus and God is a mystery." With a super partner, I follow private interest --- appreciating people --- to explore what-is rather than what may-be. No professor, no minister, no politician, no researcher, no person can slow my journey to freedom and responsibility, civic integrity, in what I do.
InterestsAt age ten, I read the last page of the Bible, seeking personal authenticity (I could not have said so then). The threats in Rev. 22:18-19 inspired the conviction, "No entity I'd follow is so weak as to threaten me." I learned enough to write these thoughts. I acquired education through B.S. in chemical engineering then served 35 years, ending as research advisor. The reactors I designed will not blow up. My peers were from perhaps 40 ethnic backgrounds. At age 24 I met a serene, confident woman who became my wife. With her, I have grown trust and confidence in my commitment to the-ineluctable-truth, which exists and humankind may discover. Her ultimate hope seems subjective yet uses the same practice: fidelity. She would rather plant flowers and adorn living, and I would rather read, listen, think, and write. Friends know her strength and my imagination. She’s more French and Italian, and I’m more Scots-Irish and English, but we each have a little German. Together, we produced three appreciative children. We are approaching our 54th year of civil agreement and 56th year of civic agreement, where “civic” refers to reliable responsibility in pursuing human being (verb) to the good. Nothing is easy.
