Introduction Born and grew up in New York City, spending summers in northern Vermont. a friend once introduced me as "a country boy who happened to be born in the city"--not sure what it means, but i like to think it's true. College at the bio-dome Swarthmore ('06), where I ended up studying religion after losing my passion for theoretical physics somewhere in a thicket of numbers. I spent most of my time in the kitchen, anyway, cooking for friends and brewing beer. I Spent a semester in Darjeeling District, India, and since then have gone increasingly off the deep end into pursuits centering around traditional herbal medicine. In July '09 I finished up my Fulbright year in Kathmandu, Nepal, where I was studying contemporary Ayurvedic practice and working on the strange and wonderful Newari language. After an extended period of "time off," I began the Classical Chinese Medicine program at NCNM in Portland, OR. Since then I've continued delving into the depths of East and South Asian medical traditions, pursuing the I Ching's mandate to "bring nourishment with ancient wisdom" (Hexagram 57).
