Introduction They say to write what you know, and at the moment I know babies - and what it's like being the only woman in a house full of menfolk. Junebug is 5 months old and we live with her daddy (aka The Lover), her "Uncle Jesse" who likes to lead daddy astray on endless trips of fishing/hunting/biking/diving/any other huntery-gathery thing you can imagine, and "Uncle Joey" who works in the Pacific and comes home every couple of months with tales of sea serpents and mermaids. With the menfolk come another six kids, who are sometimes here all at once and sometimes just one at a time... Junebug certainly doesn't lack for people to snuggle. As house matriarch, I like complaining, gory films and yelling at the TV news. Deep down, I know they can hear me. Before I had a baby, I used to like something or other, it'll come back to me in the future surely. Now I like cloth nappies, other baby stuff, cloth nappies, ranting about childhood development theorists I disagree with, and cloth nappies. Go figure. I lean towards what I hear is called a "crunchy" mama, so if that's your bag, then keep your neo-hippy eyes peeled.
