| Introduction | I was born in New York, son of Brazilian immigrants to the U.S., grandson of Spanish and Italian immigrants to Brazil. I was raised in São Paulo during the tail end of the military dictatorship, then transplanted to Los Angeles along with my parents in 1980. I have lived there ever since. In 2007-2008 I lived in Rio de Janeiro while conducting research for my doctoral dissertation in ethnomusicology. |
