About me

Gender Female
Location Carnegie, (near Pittsburgh), PA, United States
Introduction I am mostly a self-taught artist, although while I was in high school I did have Saturday art classes in the old Carnegie Tech Fine Arts Building for two or three years. I had a figure drawing class, a sculpturing class, and a general drawing class. I also had some basic art classes at the University of Pittsburgh as electives while I was working on my teaching degree in English after I had transferred from Point Park's Medical Assistant program. I had wanted to go to Art Institute in Pittsburgh, but my mother was afraid I would turn into a hippie if I did that. I also got discouraged with art because at the time everything was abstract and I didn't particularly like it. I did take a class at the art center in Shadyside where I was encouraged to "loosen up." (I don't think that took.) I have been painting off and on over the years while raising two boys (now on their own) and working as an administrative assistant. I managed to squeeze in a few more art classes at CCAC during this period of time. Lately, I seem to have gravitated toward working with watercolors and watercolor pencils, but also enjoy working with pastels, oil pastels and acrylics.
