Introduction | As this is my blogspot for running a discussion about philosophies of drawing, my name is Frances Robertson, I teach at Glasgow School of Art (Department of Historical & Critical Studies) and my current research is about the history and cultural meaning of technical drawing. So as well as thinking about the meaning of drawings I also think about how they were received and valued in society (my main focus at present is in nineteenth century Britain) I am also a practising artist, and have recently enjoyed working on two really engaging collaborative book projects. In one project I worked with the poets Gerry Stewart and Nalini Paul on image-text assemblies on the page -we had a book published and also exhibited full size posters at venues in Scotland. On the other project, I worked with the conceptual artist/ printmaker Blair Robins to prepare an extended catalogue essay for his exhibition project 'The Money Supply' shown in Washington DC in April 2008 |
