| Introduction | A young maiden of moderate means, no actual income and unknown prospects. Has studied the arts of becoming a governess with the greatest of reluctance, but hopes to avoid this fate at all costs – except perhaps marriage to a very good and very old gentleman. It is sincerely wished that the future is composed of grand adventures and mysterious possibilities. Alas, only time will tell.
