| Introduction | We travel to villages in developing countries and pay Fair Trade wages for high quality home decor, jewelry and fashion accessories from artisans in need of sustainable income. We were on vacation in Belize in 2006 and came upon some villagers who were living in squalor and making beautiful products with only the occasional tourist as customers. Liz and I knew that we had to do something to help talented people get their products to a larger market. ExoticWorldGifts.com was created to connect the struggling artist with compassionate buyers around the world. Each handmade item has a story of how each purchase empowers both the giver and the receiver. In Oct. 2007, we had just finished buying products from the long neck tribe in Northern Thailand when we came upon an elephant camp where we took a video of an elephant painting the image of an elephant. We posted the ORIGINAL Elephant Painting on YouTube and it went viral and has now been viewed by more than 9.3 million people worldwide. The sale of the original elephant paintings help provide sustainable income for the well-managed elephant camp that we support as well as support elephant conservation. |
