Introduction I'm a lifelong activist for animal and human rights and everything in this blog is written as an independent advocate. I have been volunteering with animal shelters and supporting animal groups all my life. I moved to Las Cruces when I got a civilian tech writing job at White Sands, but I grew up near El Paso in a poor, small town. I got my BA/MFA degrees at UTEP and worked my way through school. I understand our border area from differing socio economic perspectives. I read and study everything I can get my hands on concerning animal/human rights, with my recent passion being animal sheltering. In the U.S., billions of animals suffer at human hands in various industries. These rich, powerful industries are hard to change, though I support efforts to do so. Animal sheltering is the one industry we can change today to save millions of animals' lives each year--all it takes is compassion for animals and humans alike. I ask you to join me in asking our local leaders to adopt progressive sheltering programs and methods. There is no reason Las Cruces can't lead NM in these efforts.
