| Introduction | I have a lovely wife, Tadji, she's my true friend and my lover, a man can ask for nothing more. I have two daughters, and two step sons, they're great kids. They're all world travelers, smart, funny, just flat out good kids. |
| Interests | Sailing, naturally. Reading and writing. I've logged nearly 300, 000 offshore miles, including 17 transatlantic passages, 2 transpacifics, and a voyage around Cape Horn. I have written five books, two memoirs, Cape Horn to Starboard, Flirting With Mermaids, one narrative, At The Mercy of the Sea, and two books that have compiled columns from Sailing Magazine, The Used Boat Notebook, and the Best Used Boat. I am a relentless travelr, I've been to more than 60 countries and feel the need to keep moving. |
| Favorite Movies | I am not a movie watcher, I would much prefer a book and boat to read it on. Still, I like Amadeus, Frida, The Scent of a Woman. |
| Favorite Music | Leonard Cohen. Tadji and I saw him live in Athens this summer, amazing. I listen to Mozart on watch. |
| Favorite Books | This is an impossible question for me to anwer, they're are hundreds to consider, I am an incessant reader. It is easier to name authors that I admire. Kazantzakis, Garcia Marquez, Graham Green, Philip Roth, Peter Mattheissen, old Joe Conrad, Robert Graves, Steinbeck, Ernie Gann, so many authors. Here's a sad thought. If you read one book a week for your entire adult life, say 60 years, that's just 52 x 60, or 3, 120 books, that's it, and more than 50, 000 are published each year in the US alone. |
