| Introduction | Believing that the classical republican model is best suited to protect liberty and avoid corruption by emphasizing civic participation, I have created this blog with the intention of helping myself and others in the community participate in local government. So what is republicanism? It has little if anything to do with the modern political parties. There are varying definitions but basically what I mean by the term is a philosophy of politics that stretches back to ancient Rome and was favored by Thomas Jefferson. It places emphasis on local self-rule by all citizens, civic virtue and supremacy of law. |
