| Introduction | PROFESSOR Painting and Drawing Cardinal Stritch University Artist working in Painting and collage, photography, sculpture I started being interested in art as a child growing up in Missouri. I was raised in Independence and early on was exposed to the work of Thomas Hart Benton. Benton was painting his murals in the Truman Library when I was very young and I had the opportunity on several occasions to sit and watch him paint. That's really the kind of experience that will inspire a person to try painting also. So I asked my Mom for brushes and paint. We didn't have much money so it was amazing that she actually got them for me. That was really a mess, It was much more difficult than it had looked when Benton was doing it. I knew that many great artist had studied at the Kansas City Art Institute an so I began to aspire to training there myself. After high school and a period in the Marine Corps in the late sixties and early seventies, I started to explore the art world more seriously. |
