| Introduction | I have lived on Mountain Island Lake for 14 years. Every day I look out my window and see the Lake, part of the Catawba River, as a changing, vital entity. The seasons of the year bring different views - the migration of birds, the return of the ospreys, the return of motor vessels with skiers and tubers behind them, the fishermen, the kayakers. The daily rise and fall of the water levels reminds me that this Lake is the water supply for almost 1 million people. The River is a resource that has limitations. It is easy to forget it must be managed to keep all the features that make it attractive and important to Charlotte. Living on the Lake has motivated me to obtain a global vision of the River. I am Lakekeeper for the Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation, and a board member of the Catawba Women's Group. I have served several terms as a Mountain Island Marine Commissioner, been an officer in the Mountain Island Lake Association, served as a member of the Mountain Island Partnership, the Mountain Island Stewards and the ReVenture Advisory Council. For three years, I represented Mountain Island Lake on the Duke Energy Relicensing stakeholders group. |
