| Introduction | DR HUME NICOLA JOHNSON is a Specialist Communications Advisor; Political Analyst and University Professor. She has some 15 years of combined professional experience in the media and communications industries, spanning radio & TV broadcasting, strategic communications and media relations. Her clients have included high level government officials, entertainers and political parties. Of note is Hume's membership on a Prime Ministerial Advisory Council (Most. Hon. P.J. Patterson). For more than a decade, she managed the image, reputation and brand for Jamaican reggae superstar, Tony Rebel. Nowadays, Hume manages a global academic career in Australia, New Zealand, the United States and her native Jamaica. She is also a political analyst with the Jamaica Gleaner and radio and TV programmes. Hume holds a PhD in Political Science (Waikato University, New Zealand), Masters in Government (International Relations) from the UWI (Jamaica) and a BA in Media and Communication from the Caribbean Institute of Media and Communications (CARIMAC). She is the author of Challenges to Civil Society: Popular Protest & Governance in Jamaica (New York: Cambria Press, 2011). |
