Introduction | I am a 35 year old married (Amy) father of two boys (Alexander,6, and Caleb,3). I developed Crohn's disease in 2000, and struggled with the diagnosis until October 2002. It finally reached a point where I was unable to get out of bed for 3 days and lost almost 20lbs. The next couple of months are hard to remember mostly sleeping and drinking protein shakes to keep my weight up. I had lost 35lbs in less than 2 months and was very weak. A year of taking Prednisone (a steroid) to help mask the symptoms increased my weight to 25lbs over my original weight. I was able to eat anything and everything, and I did! A new drug (Remicade) was offered through an infusion and I added this to my compliment. Since 2004, I have been a model patient, very few symptoms and the ability to live a normal life. Everything was great, except I was overweight. I turned to Triathlons as a way to get back into shape and combat the boredom of only training for one sport. Triathlons have helped me lose 45lbs and return to a healthy lifestyle. |
